Religious Activities
Sabbath Services and Festivals

We hold weekly Friday night and Saturday morning Sabbath services. They are usually 8pm and 11am respectively. We also hold different styles of alternative services throughout the year including; Friday night Rock service, Guitar led music services, Chavurah (bring and share meal) services, informal circle services.

We like to hold different styles of services for people to attend, to enhance the Sabbath experience.


Children and Youth

Services are held at various times throughout the year for the Sabbath and different festivals. We encourage everyone to be active participants during these services and they include lots of music and discussion. Services are advertised in the calendar of events.

Festival Services

These are held to mark each festival throughout the year. There is usually an evening service at 8.15pm on the evening of the start of the festival and a morning service at 11am for the first day of the festival. For Pesach we hold an evening and morning service for the last day of the festival as well.

HIGH HOLY DAY INFORMATION

TICKETS

The High Holy Day tickets will be enclosed with the September Gate for members. Tickets only may be purchased for non-members at a cost of £50.00. per ticket.

PRAYER BOOKS

Machzor Rauch Chadash will not be available at the High Holy Day services so please remember to bring yours along. They can be purchased in advance via the office.

SELICHOT SERVICE

The service starts at 10pm to which there will be refreshments served at 9pm followed by a study session.


Chanukah

For Chanukah we have a Chavurah (bring and share) meal and a service sitting around tables.


Purim

We celebrate with a Spiel which is great fun with lots of noise and laughter, fancy dress (optional) and refreshments.


Tu B’shevat

We have a Seder and service around the table as part of the evening service. Please join us as it’s a wonderful experience.


Shavuot

For Shavuot we link up with Finchley Progressive Synagogue and Sha’arei Tsedek for joint celebrations, including an evening Chavurah meal and Study sessions, with activities for children and youth as well as adults. In the morning we have a service and celebration Kiddush. It’s a wonderful experience to share a festival with our sister community.


Shabbat Services

Erev Shabbat services take place every Friday at 8pm. The following Friday night services will be commence at 6.30pm 1st June, 6th July, 3rd August, 7th September, 5th October, 2nd November and 7th December

Shabbat services are held on Saturdays at 11am.

Yom HaShoah

We have a service followed by a talk from someone directly related to the Holocaust and on Yom Ha’Atzmaut we celebrate with an Israeli party.

7:30pm-9:30pm in the Synagogue

Join us for a special Yom Hashoah, Holocaust commemoration service

at SPS.

  • 7:30pm – Memorial Service
  • 8:00 – “My Escape from Germany” by our emeritus Rabbi Harry Jacobi.
  • 9:00 – Refreshments
